Justin Timberlake – Showing Golf Some Love

Golf is officially Justified. If you’re one of those people that think golf is for old farts and there’s nothing “cool” about it, think again. The one and only Justin Timberlake is a golf fanatic, and is taking big steps to prove it. He’s got great style on the links, and actually has a pretty decent golf swing as well. Plus, not only has he lent his name to the PGA Tour’s “Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open,” but he’s now owner and operator of the first green golf course in America. I’m not just talking about the grass being green, either. In fact, this is the first Platinum LEED certified and Audubon International Classic Sanctuary certified golf course in the country. If you’re not sure what that means, it’s the first eco-friendly golf course in America.

By investing around $16 millions of his own money, JT has done much more than just build another run of the mill golf course. He came in and bought a course that was run down and on the verge of being auctioned off and turned into condominiums or a shopping mall, and evolved it into what he called “a beautiful accident.”

The course, now called Mirimichi Golf Course, is located in the town he grew up in (Memphis, TN), so the first good deed in all of this is that he’s giving back to the community that raised him. By building a course that is eco-friendly, good deed number two is that hopefully, he is starting a trend in golf course construction that will spread anywhere courses are being built or redone. Some of the most beautiful pieces of property in the world are sites used for golf courses, so why not treat the land and the creatures that live on it with the respect they deserve?

Finally, since he is becoming a house hold name world wide, showing his love for the game by being involved with his tournament and now the construction of this course will do nothing but create great exposure for the game. Kids that are fans of his that wouldn’t necessarily have been interested in golf might just give it a try now, obviously good for the future of the game, which in my book, is good deed number three. So, thanks Justin, for not being just another money grabbing celeb, and instead doing things that are so beneficial to others – including mother nature (my brother would be proud).
